Mercy Moyo

Artist Biography

The work of Mercy Moyo is a culmination of more than an endeavour that was precipitated by personal experiences she faces in her life. Born and studied in Zimbabwe. Attended primary and high school in Harare and later enrolled at the national art gallery 2003-2006. Current student at Chinhoyi university of arts and technology {Cut} for a degree in fine arts .

Informed by her practice that includes photography and time-based media, Moyo, instead of dramatically depicting violence, chooses to focus on the dynamics of the infliction, with the following elements: the instrument of women, the mode, identity crisis, politics and its impact in their trajectory of life, and the effect of the hit – thus how society react to their experiences. Mercy’s mixed media works incorporates paintings, drawings and old text book pages in art works so as to explore issues of migration, struggle of wealth, power and depicting traces and spaces, a place where empathy translates into healing in human nature. She is in constant inquiry into human behaviour and its context.
